lecture and culture in Seoul
Good morning ladies and gents ๐
Changed the country and context from japan to South Korea. The first impression are very curious. Totally different compared to Tokyo. Again hard to describe this in writing just a view lines.
Concerning the cultural program there are much more topics on the agenda compared to Tokyo, that might be the result of the long relationship between „SKK GSB“ and Steinbeis. In Tokyo SCMT was the first year in this particular region of the city.
Okay who cares โฆ what we have done till now in korea is also very impressing i guess.
My personal academic highligth was the lecture of Prof. Pil Hwa Yoo (PhD. from Harvard Business School and at least one year practical experience in Germany).
Even if couldn’t impress him with my anecdote about Machiavelli
(which i stole from KSB of course)
Other lectures focused „How to do business with china“, „Rethinking international marketing“, „Corporate Strategy from an Asian perspective“, „Game theorie“, „Leadership (historic apporach)“ and so on and so forth.
We visited Aurora Company, they are producing plush characters. Very interesting which challenges they are facing in their particular market and in terms of internationalization.
I like korea very much. But the internet availability is so bad that you will get only a view pics and not that many updates as expected.
Cumba wa hai arrigato,
Thanks to my hostfamiliy,
the stay at the kind family Noma and the teaching and introduciton to japanese traditions was sure of the best experience i had here in Japan. this expierence can not be described with words alone so here are some pictures of Katana, Kimono, Tofu, Sake, Tea, traditional dancing, japanese garden, Lotus Blossom, lots of food and of course the lovely family where i had the possibility to stay. I’m impressed you might notice, and i totally am
Good morning ladies and gentlemen,
Some pictures of yesterday, because we had to work on our case study i hadn’t time to upload.
Today (Friday 20.07.12) our final presentation will take place and we have to defend in front of the management board.
The prof. of yesterday introduced us to some principles of world warming and moving particle theory (not classical Business Engineering Topics ๐ )
Today its much better to hear sth. about Leadership/Management styles/Marketing/Kaizen and innovation within firms. Prof. Hironobu Matsushita presents us Innovation and Marketing from a cross cultural perspective what is really interesting compared to thursdays lecture ๐
Here some pictures of Thursday Social Technology (Prof. Masayuki Horio)
good morning ladies and gentlemen ๐
Today we visited CITIZEN and had an interesting discussion with some of the recent manager’s ob CITIZEN Holding, the Watch manufacturing and the machinery tool plant. The discussion was cool because the former managing board was present and answered our questions concerning japanese management styles compared to german work and management.
What was impressing that they assemble 500.000 watch works a day. Fully automated and with a production line which first version was setted up 30 years ago.
The machinery tool plant was very interesting for me because we at Siemens Healthcare Kemnath have a comparable machine park named Mechanic Center. Didn’t know before that Citizen is producing CNC machines but they do and sell up to 150 per month. Not bad with cycle times of nearly 30 days per machine.
but again no pictures but some of the Citizen staff made pictures which we get later and i will upload some.
Here my impressions of the day —> the nature around tokyo is awesome !!! good rock climbing spots i would guess ๐

Trying to get postcards seems to be an endless story in Tokio. Post office opening hours are collidating with lecture time … thats a little problem.
Today we (we devided in 4 subgroups so i can only provide information about the business case of my group) visited Soken, which is a chemical engineering company. Soken produces chemicals like adhesive pressure sensitive tape, paper inprints, „digital paper“, LCD Surface materials, something which is simliar to e-ink (but different and very top secret ๐ )
It’s a Japanese hightech company now trying to expand after China, Malaysia, Thailand to Europe.
As Junior consultants we are responsible to provide an in depth market analysis and market potentian for the European market. For that we are getting support of local students (chemical, biological and mecanical engineering students) which is a highly diverse team.
That makes a lot of fun and new ideas arise how to position Soken in the European market with special coated adhesive tape.
So we are working on our business case how to develope a market entry strategy for the japanese company soken to enter Europe. This might include al aspects of international marketing and international management such as PESTL, 5 forces, from recommandation over implementation to risks of market entry.
okay enough theorie my economic scientist blog-readers: „It’s a lot of work here to do, but it’s really really fun“
But there is one big problem: we are supposed to wear a suit (36ยฐ C !!!) that’s not that awesome
Here you get your daily portion of Tokyo pictures:
Here we go ladies and gentlemen …

Good morning ladies and gentlemen,
Just arrived in our micro hotel in Tokyo, after a 17h adventure journey from Frankfurt to Seoul ICN and from Seoul Gimpo to Tokyo.
Here are some first expressions from Tokyo and our first evening struggling to get sth to eat. But how to choose a dinner if you can not read any single letter

the Journey begins. The flight to Tokyo is departing today and two weeks of study are waiting to be accomplished.
Looking forward to business case as junior consultant to give some nice advices to japanese companies how to enter the european market ๐ this might get very interested. The company my group will visit is Soken ๐ producing ahesive tape and wanna go for expansion to the european market. We will see what the time in Japan and South Korea will bring from a cultural and academic perspective – i have no clue because the SCMT schedule is still not handed out ๐
The homestay in Japan at a local family will seriously become a highlight but it’s gonna be a „surprise surprise“ how this will work out.
I’ll keep you informed from nearly 10.000 km away (source: http://www.luftlinie.org/Tokio-Japan_95514-neustadt)
